   ¿Why Vitoria?

Vitoria-Gasteiz, 230,585 inhabitants, capital of Euskadi and the historical territory of Alava. Its Old City maintains its gothic layout and by its elliptical and narrow streets, old and recovered palaces, the breath of primigenio circulates, of the nonlost authenticity.The medieval quarter, declared a national monument in 1987, is one of the most beautiful and best-preserved of its kind in the North of the Iberian Peninsula. Moreover, the city contains fine examples of a number of architectural styles, ranging from the Gothic to the Neoclassic.

Contained in its expansion, Vitoria-Gasteiz is lost no its human dimension. A careful municipal policy has contributed to maintain its balance conjugating urbanism, environment, the social relations and initiatives with services of first order and a network of sociocultural and sport Civic Centers that cohesionan the citizen life and decentralize the local administration.
   

The characteristics that best define it are the importance given to environmental issues, the creation of pedestrian precincts in large areas of the city centre, a varied offer of cultural activities, public services (Civic Centres), and sports facilities, which make this a city designed for living.


The city has 42 sq m of green space per person, which makes it the European city with the most consolidated green areas. The inhabitants of Vitoria celebrates a number of local festivals distributed throughout the year. The main festival, which is that of its patron saint, the Virgen Blanca, takes place on August 4-9.
