Endowed with a curious and versatile spirit, Eloy Orzaiz is a harpsichordist, fortepianist, and pianist.
After receiving a solid piano education in his hometown of Pamplona and at Musikene (with Professor Miguel Ituarte), Eloy was awarded scholarships from the Government of Navarre, the Humboldt Foundation (Hezekiah Wardwell Prize), and the Nuffic Foundation (Excellence Programme). He continued his studies at the conservatories of The Hague and Groningen, the Hochschule für Musik in Trossingen (Germany), and the Schola Cantorum in Basel (Switzerland). Guided by teachers such as Johan Hofmann, Paul Komen, J.A. Bötticher, Jesper Christensen, and Edoardo Torbianelli, Eloy Orzaiz graduated with top honors in several Master’s programs. These studies not only provide him with a remarkable technical and artistic foundation, but also deepen his knowledge of the diverse styles, aesthetics, and repertoires spanning from the Renaissance to the present day.
In the 2012-2013 season, Eloy was a harpsichordist with the European Union Baroque Orchestra (EUBO), and in 2014 he was named a laureate of the Royaumont Foundation. In fact, he is capable of playing a wide variety of historical keyboard instruments: the harpsichord and various models of fortepianos of English, Viennese, and French origin, for which he feels a special affinity.
Chamber music is another of his passions. Eloy frequently performs on stage with artists of the caliber of Amandine Beyer-Gli Incogniti and Naaman Sluchin. In fact, his duo recording with this violinist has been enthusiastically received by critics (Melómano de Oro, 5 stars from CLASSICA Magazine), as has his first solo album, La Contemplazione (IBS Classical).
He also founded “El Parnasillo” with violinist Marta Ramírez, a duo specializing in the rediscovery of repertoire for violin and historical keyboards from the 18th and 19th centuries. In 2019, Marta and Eloy were finalists in the York International Early Music Competition (England).
Eloy is currently a professor of historical keyboards at the Boulogne-Billancourt Conservatory (France).
